Welcome on the WPA census page of ECBG |
WPA | the World
Pheasant
Association is a charity, founded in 1975,
which aims to develope and promote the conservation of all the species within the order of
the Galliformes, which are the gamebirds of the world. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has given responsibility for the conservation of all the world's galliformes (pheasant-like birds) to the World Pheasant Association, whether these birds be in the wild or in captivity. ECBG | European Conservation Breeding Group was formed by WPA to promote interest in keeping game birds for conservation purposes. |
ECBG is intended to get a screen of the European captive stocks species by species with a European report.
This report has to be taken every year.
Only with these results it will be possible to determine the trends of the different species.
So ECBG will be able to see on time, where actions are needed and give recommendations to the breeders.

The chapter Germany is already collecting the census informations since the year 1999 and the chapter UK since the year 2000.
With this input it is possible to evaluate statistically how the trend of a captive stock will be in the future.
On this aspect it will be possible to prove, that the breeders are able to conserve the different species in captivity.
It is very important that every breeder participates with his return at the census!
